The film includes a number of features - irony, intertextual, self-referential, homage, playful and stylish - commentary of post-capitalism
Does Tarantino sacrifice his characters and narrative in favour of a postmodern aesthetic?
Perhaps he does develop ideological characters - He breaks the rules of genre by humanising generic character tropes by showing the old rules are inept. No matter how amoral, we empathise with them
How does Tarantino challenge generic convention?
Challenges generic narrative arcs and neat resolutions. E.g Vincent dies, only to be reborn in the end, Marvin is shot by accident and Jules has a religious epiphany
How do many of the central characters subvert conventions and enjoy a positive narrative solution?
Jules becomes the good sheperd rather than avenging angel, Vincent saves Mia, Butch outwits Marsellus and runs off with Fabienne, Marsellus takes revenge on sadistic rednecks - happy endings?
