A

Atrophic Rhinitis
* *Bordetella bronchisepticia/ Pasteurella *
* necrosis of the inside of the nose
* Contagious spread
* Sneezing, bloody nose, distortion of nose, nose bleeds
* Vaccination available
* Treatment – antibiotics, increase humidity, NSAIDs

Pneumonia:
* Coughing, lethargy, pyrexic, difficulty breathing
** Mycoplasma, Pasteurella *
* Antibiotics
* Actinobacillus – carrier status with no clinical signs
* Sudden death, coughing, pyrexic, lethargy
* Chronic lung damage
* Vaccine available

Swine influenza
ZOONOTIC
Pig to pig contact
Can be fatal
Biosecurity – especially after shows

  • causes: No water for extended hours then sudden water consumption or High volumes of high salt feed – less common
  • signs: Seizures, walking aimlessly, blindness, abnormal sitting
  • Treatment – gradual rehydration, reduce brain swelling
