  • Believed there were 5 dimensions of personality
    1. Openness (to experience)
    2. Conscientiousness
    3. Extroversion
    4. Agreeable
    5. Neuroticism
  • Each of these theories are trying to explain and describe possible combinations of characteristics and how they predict behavior
  • High level of agreement that they describe personality well
  • Supported by longitudinal studies
  • Considered universally relevant

  • A psychological perspective that emphasizes the study of the whole person
  • Looks at human behavior through the eyes of the observer and the eyes of the person doing the behavior
  • Both Rogers and Maslow regard personal growth and fulfillment in life as a basic human motive
  • Each person seeks to grow psychologically and continuously enhance themselves
    • -> self-actualization
      - Psychological growth, fulfillment and satisfaction in life
