emotional dysregulation, unstable interpersonal relationships, unstable self-image, recurrent suicide attempts
- almost always appear in a state of crisis
- cannot tolerate being alone
- family hx of depression
borderline personality disorder
Tx: psychotherapy (esp in groups), antipsychotics, antidepressants, MAOIs, alprazolam, carbamazepine for global functional improvement
loud, overly emotionally expressive and attention seeking
drama queen
histrionic personality disorder
Tx: psychotherapy, pharm for symptoms
have too high opinion of themselves & little regard to others except how others meet their needs; sense of entitlement
narcissistic personality disorder
Tx: lithium for mood swings
serotonergic antidepressants
social inhibition related to low self-esteem & sensitivity to rejection & criticism by others
-shy and shows great desire for companionship
avoidant personality disorder
Tx: psychotherapy to encourage movement out into the world
pharm for anxiety, beta blockers (atenolol)
strong need to be taken care of by others
dependent personality disorder
Tx: insight-oriented therapy, self-reliance
pharm for depression and anxiety (imipramine)
pattern of perfectionism, stinginess, stubbornness, orderliness, and inflexibility; workaholics
3 Ps:
