recurrent suicidal behaviors or threats of self mutilation (cutting)
mood instability (marked mood reactivity)
chronic feelings of emptiness
inappropriate and intense anger
transient stress related paranoia and dissociation
treatment of borderline personality disorder
psychotherapy (effective and best evidence for dialectical behavioral therapy)
adjunctive pharmacology to target mood instability and transient psychosis (second generation of antipsychotics and mood stabilizers)
antidepressants if comorbid mood or anxiety disorder

dialectical behavioral therapy is

histronic personality disorder
excessive need for approval and attention seeking behaviors. Patients with this disorder are emotional vunlerable and behaviors focus on obtaining approval from others.
are uncomfortable if not center of attention and typically use physical appearance to draw attention to self. Interaction may be inappropriately sexually seductive or provocative.
they do not have the same degree of emotional lability and risk for suicidality as borderline personality disorder
