Are personality disorders stable?
It is not possible to provide an estimate for the stability of a disorder. Traits and fxning may be more stable than specific disorders. Younger and more severe cases are likely to change over time.
Diagnosis Personality Disorders in DSM V
IF: Moderate impairment is present (e.g., on the Levels of Functioning Scale)
THEN: Evaluate whether those problems fit one of 6 PDs IF: Problems do not match a PD Type
THEN: PD Trait Specified: note maladaptive traits
Before finalizing diagnosis make sure to take into account: Cultural context
