Separation Anxiety
Excessive fear or anxiety concerning separation from home or attachment figures:
- worry about well-being of attachment figure
- worry about untoward events like getting lost
- reluctant to go out by themselves
- clinging
- persistent need to be close
- won’t go to sleepovers
- headache, stomach aches, vomiting
Selective Mutism
Does not initiate speech or respond when spoken to by others
Specific Phobia
Fear or anxiety circumscribed to the presence of a particular situation or object. Not specific phobia if the fear is of negative evaluation or panic attacks occur more broadly
Social Anxiety Disorder
Intense fear or anxiety of social situations in which the individual may be scrutinized by others
-fear of being negatively evaluated
-trembling hands
-social situations provoke anxiety
Not social anxiety if the anxiety is about the nature of ongoing relationships
Panic Disorder
Recurrent or unexpected panic attacks
Agoraphobia
Fear triggered by the real or anticipated exposure to a wide range of situations: public transportation, enclosed spaces, open spaces, standing in a crowd, or being outside of the house alone.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Excessive anxiety or worry about a number of events or activities
- difficult to control the worry
- feeling restless, fatigued, difficulty concentrating, irritability, muscle tension, sleep disturbance
