  • 20 months- develop sense of self-awareness
  • 3-4 years (early childhood)- children understand themselves in terms of concrete characteristics and preferences, and general context-specific characteristics
  • 6-8 years- understand themselves in terms of personality traits, engage in social comparison
  • 12-17- concern with social concept and social acceptance (when younger you care more about what others think about you more, care more about internalized values when older)
