Q

How can you manage stress?

A

Put in your best efforts to manage stressors that you have control over and leave stressors and matters that are beyond your control to Almighty God.

(1) Learn to PRIORITIZE the issues that are most important to you.

(2) Decide what issues can be resolved or changed as opposed to issues that cannot be resolved or changed.

(3) Make lots of Du’a (supplications), Dhikr (remembrances of Him) and Salah (prayers) to Almighty God while submitting to His decree or fate/destiny for you for He is the All Knowing. Do your best to put in your best efforts to manage stressors that you have control over those that are beyond your control.

Q

What are some strategies to manage stress from planning your wedding as differences in opinions and disagreements are inevitable in wedding planning as in marriage itself.

A

(1) Consider the BIG picture as it affects each decision.

(2) Ask yourselves who cares more about the issue.

(3) Periodically assess your wedding planning stress and feelings of competency.

(4) Teach and learn from one another rather than assuming the other person “gets it”.

(5) Consider whether deeper issues are underlying your conflict(s)/disagreement(s).

For example, sometimes the issue is not about the size of the wedding but about a feeling of envy or competition because one of you has a bigger family or circle of friends or the issue is not between the two of you but between one of you and your family member(s).
