Person of Jesus - Bible texts Flashcards
Luke 10:25-37
The parable of the Good Samaritan. Among many other things, demonstrates Jesus’ challenge to religious authority as those religious figures in the story try to follow the letter of the law, rather than the spirit of the law. Also challenges the political setup of Jesus’ time in suggesting that the enemy (the Samaritans) might indeed be good people.
Luke 15:11-32
The parable of the Lost Son (or Forgiving Father) which is used to demonstrate the levels and depths of God’s forgiveness as well as the importance of the sinner choosing to repent.
Mark 5:24-34
The healing of the woman with the flow of blood (haemorrhage). Used to show how Jesus was not fixated by coming into contact with a woman who was bleeding but was focused on bringing her back into society and liberating her.
Mark 6:47-52
Jesus walks on water. A miracle, suggesting his divinity.
Matthew 5:17-48
Part of the Sermon on the Mount, focusing on Jesus’ teaching that it is not just following the rules that matters but being totally pure inside. What matters is moral motivation.
John 9:1-41
A discourse that includes a healing of a blind man. Includes an ‘I am’ saying, often used to suggest that Jesus (or the Gospel writer) was indicating that Jesus was divine.
