Peritoneum Flashcards
Name the peritoneal formations
mesentery
greater omentum
lesser omentum
name the subdivisions of the peritoneal cavity
greater sac
lesser sac
what is the pertioneum
serous membrane that lines the abdominal cavity
covers viscera/ organs in the abdominal cavity
Layers of the peritoneum? where are they found?
Parietal peritoneum: lines container
visceral peritoneum: on surfaces of organs
peritoneal cavity location
in abdominal cavity
space between parietal and visceral layers
what are retroperitoneal organs?
name these organs?
only anterior portion of organ is covered is visceral peritoneum
Pancreas and kidneys
What are intraperitoneal organs
name these organs
organs fully invaginated (covered) in visceral peritoneum
stomach, jejunum, ilium, spleen
What is the mesentery?
what is its function?
the 2 layers continuous layers of peritoneum
(Parietal - visceral - route for nerves,art,veins - visceral - parietal)
suspends organs from posterior abdominal wall, structural support, organization (route for nerves, arts, veins)
Where is the lesser omentum
suspended from the liver to stomach
where is the greater omentum? how is it formed
Greater curvature of stomach to transverse colon
extension of anterior and posterior peritoneum from stomach and transverse colon
4 layers of peritoneum
where is the jejunem
top left corner of abdomen
where is the ileum
bottom right corner of abdomen
how is the jejunem and ileum organized in abdomen
suspended from posterior abdomen wall by mesentery
Root of mesentery (route for veins, nerves, arteries)
Name the parts of the colon (large intestine)
ascending colon (right side)
transverse colon
descending colon (left side)
What structures are found on the large intestine
Tenia coli (longitudinal muscle on length of colon)
Hausta (muscular bands, “bunches”muscle)
appendages epiploicae (fat bags)
What are the subdivisions of the peritoneal cavity? where are they located
Greater sac - main/larger compartment (inside bubble)
Lesser sac - behind the lesser omentum and stomach, extending from liver to space between layers of greater omentum
function of lesser sac
allows for free movement of stomach and other organs
communicates with greater omentum via omental foramen
location of hepatogastric and hepatoduodenal ligament
hepatogastric - liver to stomach
hepatoduodenal - liver to large intestine
what is the omental foramen
doorway to lesser sac
what structures are present at the anterior and posterior aspect of the omental foramen
The portal triad
Anterior - bile passages, hepatic artery, portal vein (posterior to bile + hepatic)
Posterior - IVC and abdominal aorta
