Anterior Forearm Flashcards
What are the superficial muscles
Pronator Teres (PT)
Flexor Carpi Radialis (FCR)
Palmaris Longus (PL)
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris (FCU)
Proximal attachment(s) - superficial muscles
Medial epicondyle of humerus
Distal attachment(s) - superficial muscles
Pronator teres - Proximal radius (middle 1/3)
Distal to the wrist:
Flexor Carpi Radialis - base metacarpal 2
Palmaris longus - palmar aponeurosis
Flexor carpi ulnaris - base metacarpal 5
Actions - superficial muscles
Flexion at each joint proximal to insertion
FCR - abduction at wrist
FCU - adduction at wrist
PT - pronation of forearm
Innervation - superficial muscles
Median nerve - PT, FCR, PL
Ulnar nerve - FCU
Intermediate muscle(s)
Flexor Digitorum superficialis (FDS)
Deep Muscle(s)
Flexor pollicis longus (FPL)
Flexor digitorum profundus (FDP)
Pronator quadratus (PQ)
Attachments Flexor digitorum superficialis
Proximal - Medial epicondyle of humerus, ulna and forearm
Distal - Middle phalanges of digits 2 -5
Action Flexor digitorum superficialis
Flexion at every joint proximal to insertion
Proximal attachments of FDP and FPL (deep muscles)
(diagonal line):
ulna (FDP)
interosseous membrane
radius (FPL)
Distal attachments of FDP and FPL (deep muscles)
Distal phalanges
Digits 2-5: FDP
Digits 1: FPL
Attachments of pronator quadratus
Distal ulna to distal radius
Innervation of flexor digitorum superficialis
Median nerve
Innervation of deep muscles
FPL - Anterior interosseous n (branch of median n.)
FDP- 1/2 ulnar n. , 1/2 median n.
PQ - Anterior interosseous n (branch of median n.)
Boundaries of Cubital fossa
