Q
how does peritoneal dialysis work
A
peritoneal dialysis is the diffusion of small molecules though a partially permeable peritoneal membrane into the dialysate in the abdominal cavity. a soft plastic tube (catheter) is inserted surgically into the patient. dialysis fluid enters the abdominal cavity and is left there for a prescribed period of time. during that period, irea and other waste products from the body diffuses into the dialysis fluid. at the end of the treatment, the dialysis fluid with waste products is removed from the body into the drainage bag
