ultrafiltration Flashcards
what are the differences between the afferent and efferent arteriole
the afferent arteriole has a higher blood pressure than the efferent arteriole due to its larger diameter. the afferent arteriole is also where blood enters the bowman’s capsule from, while the efferent arteriole is where blood leaves the bowman’s capsule
how do the bowman’s capsule and the glomerulus work together to drive ultrafiltration?
the glomerulus which only allows molecules small enough to pass through the bowman’s capcule, acts as a filter. the basement membrane between the glomerulus and the bowman’s capsule, functions like a filter. water, glucose, amino, acids and urea are forced out of the glomerulus into the bowman’s capsule, forming glomerular filtrate.
