structure of a kidney Flashcards
what is the cortex?
the outer portion of the kidney
what is the medulla?
the inner portion of the kidney
what is the renal pelvis?
it is the enlarged portion of the ureter, and is a funnel shaped space where urine flows into before entering the ureter
why does R.A have a higher concentration of oxygen and glucose than R.V
oxygen and glucose are the raw materials that allows for kidney cells to carry out aerobic respiration
why does R.A have a lower concentration of carbon dioxide than R.V
carbon dioxide is one of the end products of aerobic respiration carried out in kidney cells
why does R.A have a higher concentration of urea than R.V
urea is a metabolic waste product that is removed from the circulating blood when it enters the kidney
