A

  • q8h saline flush when IV not in use, and saline flush before/after meds
  • clear dressing covering lock (to assess site)
  • marked with insertion date, gauge, initials of RN

A
  • fluids are given over an extended period of time so no flushes needed
  • an infusion pump is generally needed to reduce errors
