Periodic Table Flashcards
What group are the Alkali earth metals?
Group 2
What group is the Haldgen group?
Group 7
What group is the Noble gases?
Group 0
Do you find the non-metals or metals to the right side of the periodic table?
Non-metals
What side are the metals on?
Left
Is it metals or non-metals which are good conductors of heat and electricity and are shiny?
Metals
Name five properties of a non-metal
Insulator of heat and electricity Low density Dull Brittle (breaks easily) Not sonorous
Do the Noble gases have a high or low melting and boiling point?
They have a low melting point and a low boiling point
Are the noble gases reactive? Does the reactivity increase or decrease as you go from bottom to top of the periodic table?
They are basically u reactive however the reactivity does increase a little bit as you go for t he bottom of the group upwards
Does the density increase or decrease as you go down the Noble gases group?
If increases which is why you fill balloons with helium because it is the lightest gas
Why are group one metals so reactive?
Because they only have 1 electron and they are working hard to get rid of that one electron
Why is group 0 called 0?
It would be called group 8 as they all have 8 electrons on their outer shell except helium that’s why it can’t be called 8
If an unknown substance turns the universal indicator or age what does it mean? Is it a Alkali or Acid is it a metal or non-metal?
It would be a non-metal because an acidic solution (acid) turns the scale orange. If it was a metal it would be an alkali and it would turn the scale either a blue or purple
What is displacement?
Say you had fluoride water and you mixed it with potassium floride you wouldn’t get a chemical reaction because they have the same element in them but if you mixed it with something such as potassium chloride it would have a chemical reaction because the floride is more reactive (powerful) than the chloride so it gives it the power as such to make a chemical reaction. You have to think of it as is it the incharge older brother or is it the little sister
What group are the alkali metals?
Group 1
