List the first 20 elements in order
Hydrogen, Helium, Lithium, Beryllium, Boron, Carbon, Nitrogen, oxygen, fluorine, neon, sodium, magnesium, aluminium, silicon, phosphorus, sulphur, chlorine, argon, potassium , calcium
What is the symbol for iron
Fe
What is the symbol for sodium
Na
What is the symbol for potassium
K
What is the definition of an element
A simple substance made up of one type of any atom
What is the definition of a compound
A substance that can be split up into simpler substances, it contains an atom or more elements
What is the definition of a mixture
2 or more substances jumbled up but not joined together. The substances are often separated from each other
give an example of a physical change
Solid————> liquid = physical
Define a chemical change
An example of a chemical change is when sodium reacts with water, it fizzes violently and the water changes purple
What does argon look/smell like and what is it used for?
Argon is a colourless ,odourless gas that is used in light bulbs and double glazed windows
What does chlorine look like and what is it used for
Chlorine is a yellow and green gas it kills bacteria and is used in swimming pools.
How do you work out the mean?
Add up results then divide them by the amount of results there were.
What is the definition of an outlier
It is another term for an anomalous result. It is a result that does follow the pattern of other results
What is periodicity?
Periodicity is patterns across the periodic table.
Is metal oxide an alkali or acid
Alkali
Is non metal oxide an alkali or an acid
Acid
Give an example of three alkali metals
Lithium, sodium and potassium
List 5 physical properties of alkali metals
They are solids at room temperature They have low melting points They are a soft metal They have a low density They float in water
List three chemical properties of alkali metals
Very reactive
Reacts with water
They have to be stored in oil
How does lithium react with water
There are small bubbles
How does sodium react with water
It fizzes and moves around
How does potassium react with water
There are flames
It moves around
Very reactive
What group are the alkali metals and what is the pattern
They are group 1 and they get more reactive as they go down the table
List three examples of halogen
Chlorine
Bromine
Fluorine
