Periodic Table Flashcards
How arranged the periodic table as it is today and how are elements arranged?
Mendeleev, by Atomic Number/similar properties.
What is a ‘Period’ and what does this represent?
Rows, the number of occupied electron shells.
What is a ‘group?’
Column, number of electrons in outer shell.
Figure out the period and group of:
Si (2, 8, 4)
Period 3
Group 4
How did the first version of the periodic table arrange elements?
Atomic weight.
How are elements arranged on the periodic table?
Metals are on the left, non-metals are on the right and transition metals are in the middle.
What kind of elements are in Group 0, 1 and 7?
Noble gasses, alkali metals and halogens.
Properties of noble gasses?
- Boiling points increase moving down the group.
- Relative atomic masses increase going down the group. p
Properties of Alkali Metals elements?
- Become more reactive going down the group.
- Lower melting and boiling points going down the group.
- Higher relative atomic masses going down the group.
Properties of halogens?
- Become less reactive going down the group.
- Higher melting and boiling points going down the group.
- higher relative atomic masses going down the group.
