periodic table Flashcards
What did dalton propose for the model of an atom
atoms assoild indivisble tiny spheres
who was next after dalton
Thompson
What was thomson’s theory
the plum pudding model- he believed the atom was a ball of positive charge with negative electrons
what did the alpha experiment test
alpha particles were firedat gold leaf atoms
What was the first observation in the alpha scattering experiment
some of the alpha particles were deflected slightly from the gold leaf particle which meant that the positive charge was not spread out but found in the nucleus
What was the second observation in the alpha scattering experiment
most of the alpha particles went straight through the atom which meant the atom was mostly empty space
What was the third observation in the alpha scattering experiment
some of the alpha scattering particles were deflected back meaning that the mass of the atom was concentrated in the nucleus
What was the nuclear model theory
the electrons orbit the nucleus and the positive charge is in the nucleus, the atom is mostly empty space and the mass of the atom is mostly empty space as well
What was the periodic table arranged by
atomic number
When mendeleev was ordering the periodic table, why did he swap some of the elements
because some where undiscovered and some didn;t fit with the properties
how did he realise that some elements were undiscovered
some elements don’t fit into the pattern
what is the structure of an atom
- an atom is made out of protons, electrons, neutrons
2.Protons and neutrons are found in the nucleus of the atom
3.The electrons are on the shells - protons are positively chagred
5.electrons are negativvely charged
6.protons and neutrons have a mass of 1
