Q

Properties of alkali metals

A

• solids at room temperature (melting and boiling points decrease
moving down the group)
• very reactive (reactivity increases moving down the group)
• good conductors of heat and electricity
• soft
• shiny when cut
• low density

Q

Properties of halogens

A

• some solids, a liquid and some gases at room temperature (melting and boiling points increase moving down the group)
• very reactive (reactivity decreases moving down the group)
• poor conductors of heat and electricity
• solids are brittle
• low density

Q

Properties of noble gasses

A

gases at room temperature (the melting and boiling points increase as you move down the group)
• unreactive (however reactivity increases slightly as you move down the group)
• poor conductors of heat and electricity
• low density

16
Q

Do most non metals reflect light

A

Yes most non metals do not reflect electricity

17
Q

Brittle meaning

A

Hard but can break easily

18
Q

What are the melting and boiling points of non metals like

A

Low

19
Q

Are non metals magnetic

A

No they most definitely arent

20
Q

What are the factors of a polymer (plastics)

A

1) Polymers are usually insulators of heat and electricity.
2) They’re often flexible- they can be bent without breaking.
3) They have a low density - they can be very light for their size and strength. This makes them ideal for making things that need to be strong but not heavy.
4) They’re easily moulded - - they can be used to manufacture equipment with almost any shape.

21
Q

Molecule definition

A

A group of atoms bonded together

22
Q

Compound meaning

A

A thing made of 2 or more separate elements by a chemically combining them

23
Q

Mixture meaning

A

2 or more elements formed by physically mixing them together

24
Q

What is a composite material

A

Materials made from 2 or more materials stuck together

25
Q

Polymers are made….

A

… by joining molecules together in chains
