What was the South’s economy like?
There was a huge gap between the rich and the poor
There was a large reliance on labor
What was the slavery system in the South like?
Extremely expensive
Very few large plantations dominated the South
Most southerners had none
Why did poor southerners still support slavery?
They supported it in hopes that one day they would have the money to enslave people
They wanted to keep a “lower class” than themselves
