What does FSH do?
-Causes eggs to mature within follicles inside the ovary
-stimulates Oestrogen production
What does LH do?
-triggers ovulation (egg released from follicle)
What are the ovarian hormones?
-oestrogen
-progesterone
What is oestrogen about?
-Causes the uterus lining to build up(preparing for the foetus
-inhibits FSH to prevent more than one egg maturing
-Produced by the maturing follicle
What is progesterone about?
-Maintains uterus lining-which remains high throughout pregnancy, breaks down if there’s no fertilisation
-inhibits LH-so only one egg is released
-produced by the empty follicle-corpus lutem
What is infertility?
The failure to achieve pregnancy after 12 months or more of trying to conceive
What are the causes of infertility?
-Disease/infection
-inability for ovulation to occur
-unhealthy sperm produced-smoking,alcohol
-blocked sperm ducts
-blocked/twisted oviducts
-lack of mature eggs produced
What happens at day 1?
Uterus lining breaking down = menstrual blood
