What artery supplies the perineum?
The internal pudendal artery
What nerve supplies the perineum? How would you find this nerve to do a nerve block in a female pt?
The pudendal nerve
The ischial spine is palpated intravaginally. Anesthetic is injected in this location because the pudendal nerve runs along it
What fascia is enveloped around the erectile bodies of the penis?
Buck’s fascia
What part of the the penis surrounds the deep arteries?
The two corpora cavernosa
What is the corpora cavernosa called as it splits in two directions at the base of the penis?
Crus of penis
What part of the penis surrounds the urethra?
Corpus spongiosum
What muscle surrounds the base of the the corpus spongiosum, superficial to buck’s fascia?
Bulbospongiosus
Where does the deep dorsal vein of the penis run?
Along the edge of the penis opposite from the urethra.
Remember this is the vein that is compressed as the erectile tissues are engorged with blood, maintaining erection.
If rupture of the urethra occurs superior to the perineal membrane, where will the blood go?
Will fill the pelvic space. Will not enter peritoneum because of perineal membrane
IF urethra rupture occurs due to a straddle injury. Where is blood going to fill?
Straddle injuries generally cause penile urethra ruptures.
Blood will enter penile tissue, scrotum, and area superior to penis under scarpa’s fascia.
What structures form the fat-filled ischioanal fossa?
Obturator internus and levator ani
