Pericardium and Heart Development Flashcards
The Superior Mediastinum consists of:
-trachea
-aortic arch–>branches
-pulmonary arteries
-Superior Vena Cava and brachipcephalic veins
Pericardia Membrane (sac)
– viscera (heart) covered with SEROUS MEMBRANE that REDUCES FRICTION
-{parietal} - lines wall of cavity
-{visceral} -adheres to surfce of organ
Fibrous Pericardium
What is Cardiac Tamponade ?
-fibrous pericardium is tough inelastic tissue so..
-its fluid filling up in the pericardial cavity that doesn’t allow the hearts full expansion and limits blood to heart.
Anterior boundary of the mediastinum:
-sternum
-ribs 1-7
Posterior boundary of mediastium:
Thoracic vertebrae form its posterior boundary
KNOW YOUR MEDIASTINUMS DIVISIONS
What organs are in the middle mediastinum?
the heart
Pericardial sinuses consists of?
-subdivisions of the pericardial sac
[transverse sinus and oblique sinus]
Neurovascular supplies in pericardium:
-internal thoracic arteries
-pericardcophrenic a (picks up pain)
-Pericardicophrenic vein (return blood to brachiocephalic)
Nerves in pericardium:
-phrenic nerve [C3-C5]
-vagus nerve [CN X]
Phrenic Nerve (C3-C5)
-provides some sensory inn.
- stimulation of the sensory fibers and produce pain to top of the shoulder .
Vagus Nerve (CN X)
-parasympathetic n that provides AUTONOMIC motor innervation
(help rhythm of heart beat rest)
During heart dev’t in 18/19 day, where does the heart develop?
-cranial area of embryo
-then as cranium grows laterally, it folds to where heart is pushed down to its place
