CLINCIAL FEATURES: Pericarditis

A

Symptoms

  • Substernal sharp chest pain
  • Worse on movement/inspiration/lying flat
  • Relived by sitting forward

Signs

  • Pericardial friction rub
  • Fever

A

ECG

  • Widespread ST elevtion
  • Concave shaped (saddle-shaped)
  • T wave inversion

MANAGEMENT: Pericarditis

A
  1. NSAIDs (reduce inflammation & ease pain)*
  2. Colchine (gout medication)
  3. Can use corticosteroids if effective against underlying disease
