Mitral Regurgitation Flashcards
1
Q
PATHOLOGY: MITRAL REGURGITATION
A
- Regurg into let atrium = increased left atrium pressure
- = increased atrial dilation
- =increase pulmonary pressure and pulmonary oedema
- Also left ventricular hypertrophy

INVESTIGATIONS: MITRAL REGURGITATION
A
- ECG
* Broad P wave (left atrium enlargement) - CXR
* Enlarged left atrium and ventricle - Echo w/ doppler
* Can see ejection into left atrium

MANAGEMENT: MITRAL REGURGITATION
A
- Conservative*
- Seriel echo if only mild
- Medical*
- Treat symptoms (diuretics, ACEi, digoxin)
- Surgical*
- Mitral valve replacement
