DEFINITION: Cardiac Tamponade
A
MEDICAL EMERGENCY
- Accumulation of blood, fluid, pus clots or gas in pericardial space
- =reduced ventricular filling
- =haemodynamic compromise

- Malignancy (esp. breast/lung)*
- MI
- Aortic Dissection
- Infection
- Connective Tissue: SLE, RA
- CKD
Other non-specific
- Trauma
- Drugs: hydralazine, isoniazid
- Iatrogenic
- Radiation

CLINCIAL FEATURES: Cardiac Tamponade
A
- Dyspnoea
- Tachycardia
- Hypotension
- Muffled Heart Souds
- Increased JVP
- Pulsus Paradoxus
- >10mmHg decrease in systolic BP on inspiration
