Perfusion Part Two Flashcards
Cardio tonic Agents
Heart failure Drugs
Used when medications that decrease pressure and adjust cardiac rhythm no longer work
Digoxin
Cardio tonic that affects muscle tone of the heart tissue or heart muscle
Digoxin Use
Treatment of congestive heart failure
3 Musketeers
Used in conjunction to treat HF
1.digoxin
2.Lasix/ ferosimide
3. Potassium supplement to prevent digoxin toxicity and side effects of lasix
Digoxin action
Improves pumping ability, + inotropic/ - chronotropic effect
Digoxin Contraindication
Vent. Tachy, AV block
Digoxin Adverse Effects
Yellow halos, brady, N/V, anorexia= dig toxicity
Digoxin Positive inotropic effect
Increase in force and velocity of myocardial contraction (without an increase in oxygen consumption)
Digoxin Negative chronotropic effect
Reduced heart rate
Digoxin Negative dromotropic effect
Decreases automaticity at SA node; decreases AV nodal conduction, and other effects
Digoxin toxicity
•Accumulation of larger than maintenance dose
•Rapid loading
•Impaired renal function •Age electrolyte imbalance
• *Hypokalemia
