Performance parameters Flashcards
Cardiorespiratory fitness
the ability to process O2 efficiently, transport it effectively to the necessary systems to maintain intensity.
Measurement: Maximal O2 uptake VO2 max - Max amount of O2 used in the body per kg of body weight per minute.
VO2 max values for elite athletes
60-75ml/kg/min females
70-85ml/kg/min males
muscular strength test
ability of a muscle or muscle group to exert a maximal external force.
EX: 1 rep max for target exercise
Muscular power
highest power output attainable during a particular movement
EX: vertical jump test
Muscular endurance
the ability of muscle or muscle group to repeatedly exert a submaximal resistance
EX: reps to failure
Flexibility test
Sit and reach test
evaluation of hamstring and lower back flexibility
Functional tests : Gait speed
important in geriatric settings
may be a sign of declined health status
EX: short timed distance walk test
Functional tests: timed up and go test
assess lower limb mobility
if adult takes longer than 12 secs to get up increased risk of falls
Functional tests: Berg balance test
measure balance in elderly
Cognitive function and performance test: MMSE
mini mental state examination
used as evaluation over time
cognitive function test
