what is perceptual set
Perceptual set is the predispoition/readiness to perceive something in accordance to what we expect it to be.
what are the implications of perceptual set
Our expectation can either hinder or assist visual perception like if we correctly aticipate soemthing we can interpret information faster
context
is the setting or environment in which a perception is made that influences our expectation. the more relevant the information is the more we pay attention to it.
motivation
our perceptual set can be influenced by physiological factors like, thirst, hunger or psychological factors like interests, ambitions desires
emotional state
affects visual perception by how it sets us to perceive information in a way that aligns with the emotion we are experiencing.
past experience
refers to everything we’ve intentionally and unintentionally learnt through experience
memory
the process of storing and retrieving information when needed. long term memory is used to interpret and understand new visual information.
social factors
influences coming from the external social environment where we interact with others
cultural factors
the way of life a particular community or group that sets it apart from other communities or groups
