depth cues Flashcards
depth cues
convergence
our brain detects the depth and distance of an image from changes in tension from eye muscles.
retinal disparity
due to our eyes being 6-7cm apart our brain detects the difference and similarities bwtween the infrommation sent from each eye. The greater the difference the closer the informatoni
accomodation
the automatic focusing mechanism of the lens to adjust to the distance of the object
interposition
When one object is partly obscured by another we can tell that the object doing the covering is closer.
linear perspective
the convergence of parallel lines as they recede into the distance
texture gradient
the gradual deterioation of detail over distance
relative size
the tendency to perceive objects that are larger are closer and smaller are at a distance.
heigh in the visual field
the location of objects in our field of vision, closer to the horizon is further way.
what does depth cues do
the retina sees 2d images but through depth cues we perceive them as 3d.
what are depth cues
depth cues are visual signals that allow us to perceive the distance and depth of an object
