What is perception
To become aware and have an understanding of a situation through our own sense
A persons unique views and understanding of a situation
What are the 4 stages of the perception process
- Selection: of the data we will pay attention to or notice
- organization :of the data that we notice into meaningful packages (perceptions of events or people)
-Interpretation :making sense of the data that we have constructed
-Negotiation: the process by which communicators influence one another’s perceptions through communication
What is stereotyping

- We judge ourselves more charitably than we do others

What is prejudice
Preconceived, often unfavourable, judgements or opinions about individuals based on characteristics such as race, ethnicity, gender, age ect.
What is ethnocentrism
Belief that ones own culture or group is superior to others and it often involves evaluating other cultures according to the standards and values or ones own culture
