Peptic Ulcer Flashcards
How to treat PUD
1) Antibacterial drugs-
- clarithromycin/ tetracycline
- Bismuth
2) H2RA
- climetidine
3) PPI
- Omeprazole
4) Others-
- sucralfate,
-misoprostol
Clarithromycin/ Tetracyclin
inhibits H.Pylori protein synthesis
Bismuth
- ?adhere to H.Pyl. cell walland destroy
AE: black stool/tongue
Climetide mech
parietal cells of H2 receptors promote secretion gastric acid
- blocks H2 receptors
–> HEALING
Climetide AE
anti-androgenic effect
- gynecomastia
- impotence
Omeprazole
mech: prodrug –> activated by parietal cells
IRREVERSIBLE inhibition of H/K+ ATP proton pump enzyme that generates gastric acid
- inhibition of enzyme= block of gastric acid release
Sucralfate
under mild acidic conditions a stick gel is produced to band aid ulcer
misoprostol
ulcers from long term NSAID use
mech: serves as replacement for prostaglandins
