How did African American people not benefit from the boom?

A

Faced racism and discrimination, particularly bad in the South.
Thousands of Black people were lynched by the KKK
Many moved to the North for better paid jobs and education but turned out living in Ghettos and extreme poverty.

A

Could not afford to live the Flapper lifestyle so they could not enjoy the new freedoms many upper/middle class women were experiencing

A

Cotton suffered because of new synthetic materials like nylon and Flapper fashion meant less fabric was needed.
Coal suffered from oil and electricity industries.
New machineries meant that less workers were needed so unemployment became a problem.

A

Suffered from over production at the end of WW1 as Europe was no longer exporting American food due to isolation.
this cause prices to fall and unemployment

How did immigrants not benefit from the boom?

A

1917: Immigration Law = all immigrants has to prove they could read English, banned all immigration from Asia and charged a fee of $8.
1921: Emergency Quota Act = the number of immigrants from ‘the eastern hemisphere’ could not be over 3% of the number already in America in 1910 .
1924: Reed-Johnson Act = maxium number of immigrants in a year was set to 154,000, the Quota percentage reduced to 2%of those already in America in 1890.
