People and the Biosphere Paper 3 Flashcards
boreal forest
Boreal forests are still full of life that’s adapted to withstand very low temperatures year-round, such as caribou reindeer, or animals that can migrate long distances every winter
Temperate deciduous forest
Temperate deciduous forests are located in the mid-latitude areas which means that they are found between the polar regions and the tropics. The deciduous forest regions are exposed to warm and cold air masses, which cause this area to have four seasons
Tropical grassland
Tropical grasslands include the hot savannas of sub-Saharan Africa and northern Australia. Rainfall can vary across grasslands from season to season and year to year,
local factors
Differences that alter animal and plant species in a biome, from ones we would expect
biotic
This is the living part and is made up of plant (flora) and animal (fauna) life
abiotic
The (non-living) part includes the atmosphere, water, tock and soil.
Altitudinal zonation
The change in ecosystems at different altitudes, caused by alterations in temperature, precipitation, sunlight and soil type.
