Pelvis, Perineum, and Micturition Flashcards
osseus pelvis
sacrum and both os coxae
pelvic viscera
rectum, anal canal, distal ureters, bladder, urethra, genetalia
perineum
region and caudal wall of pelvic cavity
muscles fascia and skin surrounding anal canal and urogenital tract
pelvic diaphragm
levator ani and coccygeus muscles with deep fascia
genital striated muscle in male and female
male - bulbospongiosus and ischiocavernosus
female - constrictor vestibuli, constrictor vulvae, and ischiocavernosus
smooth muscles of perineum
rectococcygeus and retractor penis
trigone of bladder
region of neck demarcated by ureters and urethra
detrusor muscle
smooth muscle coat of apex and body of bladder
innervated by pelvic nerve
prolonged contraction required for micturition
internal urethral sphincter
smooth muscle on cranial urethra innervated by hypogastric nerve
exerts tonic activity after bladder is half full
external urethral sphincter
striated urethralis muscle on caudal urethra innervated by pudendal nerve
activated voluntarily or reflexly due to pressure increase (sneeze, cough etc)
Signal Pathway for Micturition
receptors, GVA fibers in pelvic nerve, ascending path, pons, descending path, activate detrusor and inhibit sphincter
unique bladder features of cat
preprostatic urethra and bulbourethral gland
