Pelvis, Hip, Thigh Muscles Flashcards
Iliacus
(ee-lee-uh-cus)
Innervation: femoral nerve
Origin: iliac fossa
Insertion: tendon of psoas major (often the two together are called the Iliopsoas muscle)
Action: flexion and lateral rotation of femur
Sartorius
(sar-tore-ee-us)
Innervation: femoral nerve
Origin: ASIS
Insertion: proximal, medial tibial shaft just inferior to the medial tibial condyle
Action: flexion, lateral rotation, and abduction of the thigh; flexion and medial rotation of the leg
Rectus Femoris
Innervation: femoral nerve
Origin: AIIS
Insertion: tibial tuberosity
Action: flexion of the thigh, extension of the leg
Vastus Medialis
Innervation: femoral nerve
Origin: linea aspera and distal, medial aspect of the femur
Insertion: tibial tuberosity
Action: extension of the leg
Vastus Lateralis
Innervation: femoral nerve
Origin: greater trochanter and linea aspera of the femur
Insertion: tibial tuberosity
Action: extension of the leg
Psoas Major
Innervation: lumbar nerves 2-3
Origin: transverse processes, bodies, intervertebral discs of T12-L5
Insertion: lesser trochanter of femur
Action: flexion and lateral rotation of femur, flexion of lumbar vertebra
Vastus Intermedius
Innervation: femoral nerve
Origin: proximal 2/3 of the anterior and lateral femur
Insertion: tibial tuberosity
Action: extension of the leg
