Pelvis + Hip Muscles Flashcards
OINA's
Pectineus Action
- adduct and slightly flex hip
- assists w/ hip lateral rotation
Pectineus PA
superior pubic ramus
Pectineus DA
pectineal line of femur
Pectineus Innervation
femoral nerve (L2, L3), may receive branch from obturator nerve
Sartorius Action
- flex, abduct, and laterally rotate hip
- flex knee (medially rotates leg when knee is flexed)
Sartorius PA
anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS)
Sartorius DA
pes anserinus of tibia
Sartorius Innervation
femoral nerve (L2, L3)
Gluteus Maximus Action
- extend hip (especially from flexed position)
- assists w/ hip lateral rotation
- fixes hip joint and assists in rising from sitting
Gluteus Maximus PA
posterior gluteal line of ilium, dorsal sacrum and coccyx, sacrotuberous ligament
Gluteus Maximus DA
most fibers end in iliotibial tract (inserts into Gerdy’s tubercle), some fibers insert on gluteal tuberosity
Gluteus Maximus Innervation
inferior gluteal nerve (L5, S1, S2)
Gluteus Medius Action
- abduct and medially rotate hip
- posterior fibers: externally rotate hip (clam)
- keeps contralateral pelvis level during single limb stance
Gluteus Medius PA
ilium, b/w anterior and posterior gluteal lines
Gluteus Medius DA
greater trochanter of femur
Gluteus Medius Innervation
superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
Gluteus Minimus Action
- abduct and medially rotate hip
- keep contralateral pelvis level during single limb stance
Gluteus Minimus PA
ilium, b/w anterior and inferior gluteal lines
Gluteus Minimus DA
greater trochanter of femur
Gluteus Minimus Innervation
superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
Tensor Fasciae Latae Action
- abduct and medially rotate hip
- keep contralateral pelvis level during single limb stance
Tensor Fasciae Latae PA
anterior superior iliac spine (ASIS) , anterior iliac crest
Tensor Fasciae Latae DA
iliotibial tract, which attaches to Gerdy’s tubercle
Tensor Fasciae Latae Innervation
superior gluteal nerve (L4, L5, S1)
