Pelvis Flashcards
Ureter
Two tubes act to transport urine from kidney to bladder
Uteric walls comprised of smooth muscle producing peristaltic waves to propel urine to bladder
Suprarenal glands
Paired endocrine glands situated over each kidney
Secrete steroid and catecholamines hormones directly into the blood
Inguinal canal
Short pathway through abdominal wall, just above inguinal ligament
Serves as pathway to external genitalia
InInguinal canal superior wall
Internal oblique and transverses abdomens muscles
Inguinal canal anterior wall
Internal and external oblique aponeuroses
Inguinal canal lower wall
Inguinal and lacunar ligament
Inguinal canal posterior wall
Transversals fascia
Deep internal ring
Found above inguinal ligament midpoint, lateral to epigastric vessels. created by transversals fascia, forms covering of contents
Superficial external ring
Marks the end of the inguinal canal, and lies just superior to the pubic tubercle. Triangle shaped opening formed by evagination of the external oblique.
Inguinal canal contents
Spermatic cord, round ligament
Indirect inguinal Hernia
Where the peritoneal sac enters the inguinal canal through the deep inguinal ring
Direct inguinal hernia
Where the peritoneal sac enters the sac through it’s posterior wall
The spermatic cord
A collection of vessels, nerves and ducts that run to and from the testes, surrounded by fascia.
Formed at the deep inguinal ring, passes through the inguinal canal and enters the scrotum
Vas deferens
Straight, thick muscular tube that conveys sperm from the epididymis to the ampulla and eventually the ejaculatory duct
Labia majora
Two hair-bearing external folds, mebryologically derived from labioscrotal swellings. Fuse posteriorly and extend anteriorly to the mons pubis
