Pelvis Flashcards
What do strong pelvic floor muscles support?
Pelvic floor muscles support the bladder, bowel and the uterus. They prevent incontinence of bladder and bowel, prolapse and are also important in sexual function. The pelvic floor can be weakened by pregnancy, childbirth, prostate cancer treatment, obesity and the straining of chronic constipation.
Which two hip bones make up the pelvic bowl
Illium and Sacrum
Where are your sitting bones
On your buttocks
What 3 passages are in the Superficial layer of the pelvic floor?
Urethra, Vagina and Anus
What is at the top and bottom of the Superficial layer?
Top - Pubic symphysis
Bottom - Coccyx (Tailbone)
What are on either side of the superficial layer?
The left sits bone and right sits bone are on either side
What happens if your pelvic floor is weak in the superficial layer?
You will have less control in your passages, therefore urine issues and sexual intercourse issues. when you strengthen you will also increase the control
What is in the deeper layer of the Pelvic floor?
The uterus and it’s muscles
What bones are made connected and make the two triangles in the superficial layer?
pubic symphysis, Ischial tuberosity and Coccyx (tailbone)
What are the front pelvic bones called?
ASIS - Anterior, anterior superior iliac spine
What does neutral pelvis position mean?
Neutral pelvis is the position of the pelvis in which the hip points (anterior superior iliac spine) and pubic bone are in the same plane (vertical in standing, horizontal when lying down) and the right and left hip points are in the same plane. Lumbar spine adpots a Lordotic position
What is a posterior pelvis tilt?
As the pelvis rotates backwards the lumbar (bottom part) spine adopts a more flexed (Kyphotic) position
What does anterior pelvis tilt mean?
As the pelvis rotates forward the lumbar spine adopts a more extended (hyper lordotic) position.
