Intro and Abs Flashcards
Identify functions of muscles
What are muscles attached by?
Tendons to the bones
Describe Flexion?
decreasing the angle between two bones (bending)
Describe extension
increasing the angle between two bones (straightening a bend)
Name all 3 types of muscle fibers
Musculoskeletal system, smooth and Cardiac
How many layers are there in the Abdominal muscles?
7
Name all the Abdominal Muscles
Rectus abdominis, External Oblique, Internal Oblique, Transverse abdominal
Which layer is the most outmost layer (superficial layer)?
Rectus Abdominis
What is the function of the Rectus Abdominis?
Spinal flexion, cough and aids with posterior tilt of pelvis
What is the Rectus Abdominis made of?
Long, thin muscle whose fibers run vertically down the body, beginning between the fifth and seventh ribs and ending at the pubic bone. Made up of the 6 pack
Where are the external obliques
They run diagonally from the ribs to the pelvis and the side of your eight pack -
Functions of External oblique
Help rotate the trunk and they provide support and stability of the gut
Where are the internal obiques
The internal obliques go upwards towards the ribs
Functions of internal obliques
flexes and bends the trunk,
Which ab muscles is in the deepest layer
Transverse abdominal
How to activate your TA’s
Activate your transverse abdominal by bringing your belly to spine and lengthenining your spine
Where and what are the transverse abdominal
they wrap around the abdominal region and act as a support belt of the abdominal. It originates from from the lower 6 ribs and comes around the ilacst crest and ingranual ligiment and attaches itself to proterier part of the internal obliques and the linear alba.
What are the Functions of Transverse Abdominal
Its main roles are to stabilise the trunk and maintain internal abdominal pressure.
