Pelvis Flashcards
Differences between male and female pelvis?
The female pelvis is wider, shorter, and leans more forward.
What is the Pelvis made up of?
The pelvis is made up of 2 hip bones , sacrum and the coccyx
What are the hip bones made up of?
The hip bones are made up of the Illium, the pubis, and the ischium
Where is the ischium
The ischium is below the illium and behind the pubis.
Where does the illium, the pubis and the ischium connect and what purpose does this serve?
The 3 parts converge on the acetabulum, where the femur locks into
Where are the 2 walls of the Illium connected
the 2 walls of the Illium are connected at the sacrum.
What part of the pelvis is visible on the surface?
The only part of the pelvis that is visible on the surface is the first quarter of the Illiac crest.
What is the ASIS
The ASIS is the starting point of the illiac crest.
What is the PSIS
The PSIS is the ending point of the Illiac crest
Describe the shape of the illiac crest
The Illiac crest goes outward from the ASIS, inward a long distance, then straight back to the PSIS
Describe placement of the highest point of the pelvis
The highest point is slightly back from center.
Describe the difference between the male and female Illiac crest
Men’s tend to be more angular while women’s are smoother. The shape of the illium varies from person to person.
On what bodies does the Illiac crest appear as a sharp edge
The Illiac crest appears sharp edge on muscular and overweight bodies. This indicates the external oblique
Under what circumstances is the external oblique streched up?
The external oblique is streched up when a person is leaning back
When does the ASIS poke out as a visible bump?
The ASIS may poke out on a very lean person. It may poke out even more if they are leaning back.
