Pelvic Nerves Flashcards
What are all nerve roots located at the Sacral plexus ?
L4,L5,S1,S2,S3,S4 and S5.
What is the major nerve of the lower limb that gets roots from the Sacral plexus ?
The Sciatic.
What is the nerve roots of the Sciatic nerve ?
L4-S3.
What is the nerve roots of Pudendal nerve ?
S2, S3 & S4.
Overall what does the Sciatic nerve innervate ?
Posterior compartment of the thigh and branches provide innervation all muscles of the leg and foot.
What is the nerve roots of the Superior Gluteal nerve ?
L4, L5 & S1.
What is the nerve roots of the Inferior Gluteal nerve ?
L5, S1 & S2.
Overall what does the superior Gluteal nerve give innervation too ?
Gluteus medius and minimus.
What is the nerve roots of nerve to obturator internus ?
Direct branches from L5 and S1.
In addition to Obturator internus what else does the nerve to obturator internus give innervation too ?
Superior Gemellus.
What are the nerve roots of the Nerve to piriformis ?
Direct branches from S1 and S2 .
What does the Pudendal nerve give innervation too ?
Levator Ani, external anal sphincter, external urethral sphincter, bulbospongiosus and ischiocavernosus.
What nerves contribute sensory innervation to the anterior parts of the skin in the pelvic region ?
Ilioinguinal, genitofemoral and pudendal.
What nerves give sensory supply to genitalia in both sexes ?
Just pudendal.
What are the functions of the sympathetic nervous system within the pelvis ?
Decrease movement in the rectum,
Contract the internal anal and urethral sphincters,
Relax The detrusor muscle of the bladder, Contract the ductus deferens and seminal vesicles during ejaculation, Relax or contract the uterus ( This is Hormone dependent),
Vasoconstriction of the arteries in the pelvis.
