Pelvic Muscles COPY Flashcards
What is the origin of Psoas Major ?
Anterior surfaces and lower borders of the transverse processes of T12- L5
Innervation of Psoas Major?
Direct branches of anterior rami L1-4
Function of Psoas Major?
Hip Flexion, Trunk flexion and lateral flexion of Trunk.
Insertion of Psoas Major?
Lesser Trochnter of Femur as Iliopsoas tendon.
Origin of Iliacus ?
Iliac fossa and crest, ala of the sacrum.
Innervation of Iliacus ?
Femoral Nerve (L2,L3)
Where do Psoas and Iliacus join to create Iliopsoas ?
Iliac fossa.
What is the insertion of the Iliacus ?
Lesser Trochanter of femur as iliopsoas.
What is the funtion of Iliacus ?
Felxion and external rotation of the hip joint, Raises the trunk from supine position and ipsilateral bending of the trunk.
Origin of Obturator Externus ?
Outer surface of obturator membrane and inferior pubic rami.
Insertion of Obturator Externus ?
Trochanteric fossa of Femur.
Origin of Obturator Internus ?
Inner surface of the Obturator membrane and the margin of the obturator foramen.
Insertion of the Obturator Internus ?
Medial surface of the greater trochanter above the trochanteric fossa.
Insertion of the Obturator Internus ?
Medial surface of the greater trochanter above the trochanteric fossa.
Function of Obturator Internus ?
Lateral rotation of hip joint.
Innervation of Obturator Internus ?
Nerve to Obturator internus ( direct branches from sacral plexus L5,S1).
Origin of Piriformis ?
Pelvic surface of sacrum.
Insertion of Piriformis ?
Superior border of the greater trochanter of the Femur.
Innervation of Piriformis ?
Nerve to Piriformis ( Direct branches from Sacral plexus S1,S2).
Function of Piriformis ?
Lateral Rotation of Hip.
What muscles make up the pelvic diaphragm ?
Levator Ani and Coccygeus.
What muscles make up Levator ani ?
Ilioccygeus, Pubococcygeus and puborectalis.
Origin of Ilioccygeus ?
Ischial spine and the fascia of the obturator internus muscle.
insertion of Ilioccygeus ?
Anococcygeal ligament and the coccyx.
Function of the Ilioccygeus ?
Supports the pevlic viscera.
Innervation of Ilioccygeus ?
Nerve to levator ani muscle ( S3,S4) and Pudendal
Nerve.
Origin of Pubococcygeus ?
Posterior Surface of Pubic ramus.
Insertion of Poubococcygeus?
The Coccyx.
What are the medial fibres of Pubococcygeus called in males ?
Levator Prostatae.
What are the most medial fibres of Pubococcygeus called in females ?
Pubovaginalis.
What is the third and largest division of Pubococcygeus called ?
Puborectalis.
What is the function of Puborectalis ?
Too act as a sling around the rectum to help maintain faecal continence.
Innervation of Puborectalis ?
Pudendal nerve (S2-S4) also Nerver to levator ani (S4).
