Pelvic Blood Vessels + Lymph Flashcards
where does the abdominal aorta branch into the two common iliac arteries?
L4-L5
Where does the common iliac vessel split into the internal and external vessel?
At the level of L5-S1
Where does the internal iliac branch into the anterior and posterior branches of the internal iliac vessel?
The same level as the top of the great sciatic foramen.
What are the branches of the posterior branch of the internal iliac vessel?
Iliolumbar artery
Lateral sacral artery (superior and inferior)
Superior gluteal artery
What is the route of the external branch of the internal iliac vessel?
It exits the greater sciatic foramen then re enters the lesser sciatic foramen.
What are the main branches of the anterior branch of the internal iliac vessel?
UM, IOU, III
Umbilical artery (gives rise to the superior vesicle artery) Middle rectal artery
Inferior vesicle artery (M)/ Vaginal artery (W)
Obturator artery
Uterine artery (ascending - tubes and ovaries, descending - vagina).
Then exits the greater sciatic foramen:
Internal pudendal artery
inferior gluteal artery
Inferior rectal artery
What are the two main anastamoses?
- Between superior rectal artery (Inferior Mesenteric Artery) and middle rectal artery (anterior branch of internal iliac).
- Between ovarian artery (abdominal aorta) and the ascending uterine artery (internal iliac artery).
Where does the internal pudendal artery supply blood to?
The perineum AND external genitalia.
What is the terminal branch of the anterior branch of the internal iliac artery?
The inferior gluteal artery.
Which structures pass through the greater sciatic foramen?
Above piriformis muscle:
Superior gluteal artery
superior gluteal nerve
Below the piriformis muscle: Internal pudendal artery Pudendal nerve Inferior rectal artery Sciatic nerve
What is the terminal branch of the posterior division of the internal iliac artery?
The superior gluteal artery.
What structure used to be the umbilical vein?
Round ligament of the liver.
Where does the vaginal artery supply blood to?
The vagina AND the inferior part of the bladder.
Where does the ascending and descending branches f the uterine artery supply blood to?
Ascending - tubes and ovaries
Descending - vagina
Where does the ureters run?
BELOW the uterine arteries.
