Pelvic Blood Vessels + Lymph Flashcards
where does the abdominal aorta branch into the two common iliac arteries?
L4-L5
Where does the common iliac vessel split into the internal and external vessel?
At the level of L5-S1
Where does the internal iliac branch into the anterior and posterior branches of the internal iliac vessel?
The same level as the top of the great sciatic foramen.
What are the branches of the posterior branch of the internal iliac vessel?
Iliolumbar artery
Lateral sacral artery (superior and inferior)
Superior gluteal artery
What is the route of the external branch of the internal iliac vessel?
It exits the greater sciatic foramen then re enters the lesser sciatic foramen.
What are the main branches of the anterior branch of the internal iliac vessel?
UM, IOU, III
Umbilical artery (gives rise to the superior vesicle artery) Middle rectal artery
Inferior vesicle artery (M)/ Vaginal artery (W)
Obturator artery
Uterine artery (ascending - tubes and ovaries, descending - vagina).
Then exits the greater sciatic foramen:
Internal pudendal artery
inferior gluteal artery
Inferior rectal artery
What are the two main anastamoses?
- Between superior rectal artery (Inferior Mesenteric Artery) and middle rectal artery (anterior branch of internal iliac).
- Between ovarian artery (abdominal aorta) and the ascending uterine artery (internal iliac artery).
Where does the internal pudendal artery supply blood to?
The perineum AND external genitalia.
What is the terminal branch of the anterior branch of the internal iliac artery?
The inferior gluteal artery.
Which structures pass through the greater sciatic foramen?
Above piriformis muscle:
Superior gluteal artery
superior gluteal nerve
Below the piriformis muscle: Internal pudendal artery Pudendal nerve Inferior rectal artery Sciatic nerve
What is the terminal branch of the posterior division of the internal iliac artery?
The superior gluteal artery.
What structure used to be the umbilical vein?
Round ligament of the liver.
Where does the vaginal artery supply blood to?
The vagina AND the inferior part of the bladder.
Where does the ascending and descending branches f the uterine artery supply blood to?
Ascending - tubes and ovaries
Descending - vagina
Where does the ureters run?
BELOW the uterine arteries.
What artery branches from the umbilical artery?
The superior vesicle artery.
What is the inferior vesicle artery (males) called in females?
Vaginal artery
what is the first branch from the anterior division of the internal iliac?
Umbilical artery
Where does the superior rectal artery arise from?
Inferior mesenteric artery
Where does the vaginal artery arise from?
The uterine artery
what does the superior and inferior vesicle arteries supply?
Bladder, ureter, seminal gland and prostate in the male.
where does the inferior rectal artery branch from?
The internal pudendal artery
what are the two end branches of the anterior division of internal iliac artery?
Internal pudendal (branches into inferior rectal)
Inferior gluteal artery
What is the main vein that drains the pelvis?
Internal iliac vein
Where does the internal iliac vein start?
At the level of the greater sciatic foramen.
What does the femoral vein become?
External iliac vein.
What is the only vein that drains into the common iliac instead of the internal iliac vein?
Iliolumbar vein
Where is the common iliac vein formed at?
The upper part of the pubic symphysis.
Where do the right and left common iliac veins combine to become the inferior vena cava?
L5
Where does the right testicular/ovarian veins drain into?
Directly into the inferior vena cava.
Where does the left testicular/ovarian vein drain into?
The left renal vein, this then drains into the inferior vena cava.
Where do the rectal veins drain into?
superior rectal vein - venous portal system
Middle rectal vein and inferior rectal vein - into the systemic circulation
Which venous plexus does the prostatic venous plexus anastomose with?
The internal vertebral venous plexus.
Where does the glans penis drain into?
Deep inguinal lymph nodes.
Where do the superficial intgional lymph nodes drain into?
The deep inguinal lymph nodes.
Where do the deep inguinal lymph nodes drain into?
The pelvic lymph nodes.
