Make sure lighting is decent

Hair distribution
Skin abnormalities
Discharge
Swelling
Prolapse
Ask patient to cough - note incontinence or prolapse

Palpation
A
Cervix
Posterior fornix
Lift uterus anteriorly
Place other hand on lower abdomen
Press gently as if finger tips from both hands could meet
Note size and mobility of uterus
Assess adnexae by moving fingers into R and L lateral fornices in turn
Note any masses
