What is the technique for a pressurised metered-dose inhaler?
A
- Sit up and lift chin to open the airways
- Remove cap from the mouthpiece
- Shake the inhaler
- Breath ot gently
- Immediately place the mothpiece in your moth and put teeth around it
- Breath in slowly and deeply through the mouthpiece, as you breathe in, simltaneously press the canister to release one puff of medication
- Hold breath for 10 seconds or as long as possible
- If second puff is required, wait 30-60 seconds before taking a second puff.
- Replace the cap

When is a spacer device helpful?
A
When the patient has poor coordination when sing the inhaler
High doses of inhaled corticosteroid are needed
Infants and toddlers require inhlaed medication

What is the technique for large-volme spacer device? (single breath)
A
- Remove cap
- Shake inhaler and insert
- Place mouthpiece in mouth
- Practice breathing in and out - listen for the click - ensures that the valve is working
- Press cannister
- Take deep, slow breath.
- Hold
- Remove device
- If further dose needed then wait
- Replace cap

What is the technique for a large-volume spacer device (multiple breath technique)
A
Remove cap
Shake inhaler and insert
Place mouthpiece in mouth
Practice breathing in and out - listen for the click - ensures that the valve is working
Press cannister
Breath in and ot 5 times (tidal breathing)
Remove device from mouth

How do you clean a spacer device?
A
- Clean monthly
- Wash in warm soapy water
- Do not rinse
- Leave to air dry
- Re-check that the valve works before se
- Replace every 12 months

Procedure for using accuhaler
A
- Check dose counter
- Open using thmb grip
- Hold horizontally and load the dose by sliding the lever until it clicks
- Breath out gently away from mouthpiece
- Make seal
- Breath in steadily and deeply
- Hold for 10
- While holding breath move inhaler away from mouth
- Breath gently away from mouthpiece
- Repeat dose if necessary
- Close cover to click shut
