A mudstone that fractures preferentially to the bedding. Shales are thinly bedded.

Clay sized material hardened to form compact rock. May be layered , but it fractures parallel or perpendicular to the bedding

A
Consists of alternating lamella of dark colored shale and light colored shale, it is seasonal deposited of sub-glacial stream.
