Anonymity produced a more honest appraisal for the researcher
HOWEVER
it can be used as a way to criticise rival researchers
bc researschers are in direct compition for limited research fundings

natural tendency to publish significant findings
positive results are published
not meeting criteria - ignored/disregarded
evaluation point - burying ground-breaking research
reviews tend to be critical of contradicting views
established scientists more likely to be reviewers
findings more in chime w/ current views (accepted)
new/innovative ignored
= slowing rate of change within particular scientific disciplines
